The new Companies House regime for identification of Directors and Persons with Significant Control (“PSC”) started 18th November 2025.
Companies House Identity Verification
Here are some initial things we’ve learned six days in:
- You can check the dates when you need to provide ID for Directors/LLP partners and PSCs via the Companies House Public Record – the dates will differ for Directors/Partners on the one part versus PSCs on the other part.
- For Directors / Partners who are also a PSC the information has to be entered twice – as a Director / Partner and then again as a PSC. In some circumstances the PSC record cannot be updated the same day, and needs to be updated the following day – its possible Companies House may correct this glitch, but there is an element of confusion.
- It doesn’t appear you can enter the Identification Details early – you have to wait to the date stipulated
- If a Director/Partner is also a PSC but their name differs between the two records, then the verification date will not align with the Confirmation Statement date, which is when ID is normally required for Directors/Partners. Updating the details to match doesn’t change the ID date.
- Whilst for Directors and LLP partners the ID date is based on Confirmation Statement date, for PSCs who are either not Directors / Partners, or who are not recognised as such due to a name mismatch, the ID date is based on birth month which means the first tranche will be in December 2025 – its not clear whether Companies House will send reminders or not.
As a reminder:
- The process of obtaining ID is one off, and then gives the individual a code which is used across all Companies/LLPs they are involved with.
- You get your code via completing ID on the Companies House website – although Whitefield are an ACSP (Authorised Corporate Service Provider) with Companies House we cannot do the ID for you, as the Companies House requirement goes beyond the standards we are required to work to for other purposes.
The new ID requirements, along with requirements for us and our staff to be registered under the ACSP scheme to file for you, means that Companies House filing has become more complicated and time consuming. T this end we’ve had to increase our fee for assisting with Confirmation Statements, and introduce a new tariff of fees if you ask us to file documents for you.
