One of our clients has sent this in:

I had an email to my company email address this morning purporting to be from Companies House, with the header FW: Case 9848815

There is a .zip file attached, which is obviously some kind of maIware/virus.

The body of the message reads as follows:

“This message has been generated in response to the company complaint submitted to Companies House WebFiling service.

(CC01) Company Complaint for the above company was accepted on 09/12/2013.

The submission number is 9848815 – <company domain name>

Please quote this number in any communications with Companies House.

All WebFiled documents are available to view / download for 10 days after their original submission. However it is not possible to view copies of accounts that were downloaded as templates.

Note: reference to company may also include Limited Liability Partnership(s).

Thank you for using the Companies House WebFiling service.

Note: This email was sent from a notification-only email address which cannot accept incoming email. Please do not reply directly to this message.”

A basic search yielded several references to this scam from about September of this year, but it’s the first time I’ve received one.

A reminder then to be ever vigilant when dealing with email from Companies House, HMRC, etc.
